PRESS RELEASE

Relief workers from the Al Imdaad Foundation spent four weeks in Haiti where we co-ordinated a massive food distribution drive following the quake that struck Port-au-Prince on January 12, 2010.

More than 100 tons of aid was distributed to the affected population on February 10, 2010. AIF handed out food items, water buckets, gas stoves and other essentials under the armed protection of the United Nations Jordanian battalion. The distribution benefitted more than 20,000 recipients including an orphanage, and residents of an area called Taba. The final leg of the distribution was conducted in collaboration with the UN World Food Programme at a UN log base.

Qari Ziyaad Patel, AIF projects co-ordinator in Haiti, reported that the food distribution drive was a huge success. The Haitian and South African governments have expressed their appreciation to the AIF team and the people of South Africa for our efforts in helping to rebuild the country. AIF is committed to providing continued assistance to the people of Haiti through long term and sustainable aid. We are assessing the possibility of constructing a village of homes and establishing water projects in Port-au-Prince. Remember, in working together there is no  limit to what we can all achieve in striving to serve humanity.
